Fin City now in your Language!
A few days ago we covered the internet release of Fin City, the brand new online community for everything related to fin sports. Fin City has been going really well, but for one exeption: Prospective members couldn’t understand the website, since it was only in English. This has now changed!
When the Team of Fin City started their project several months ago they took for granted, that the worldwide finswimming scene interacts in English. Lots of feedback from members and those who’d like to become one showed the people responsibel for the website very quickly, that they were very wrong. Large parts of the finswimming world don’t speak English, don’t even have it as a second language at school. Potential members from parts of the world like south america and asia were lost to Fin City. Unfortunately translations are expensive, even more so if they have to be in various languages. Fin City has been developed and is run by a group of volunteers and the expenses of professional translations are far out of there reach. Therefore they did the next best thing: They installed “Google Translate” on their website!
They are quite aware of the fact, that automatic translations like those of “Google Translate” are far from being perfect. Sometimes they are even plain incomprehensible, but it is also understood, that Fin City needs to be multi-lingual to cater for a world wide community. “Google Translate” should at least make it possible for non-English speaking members to follow the going ons at Fin City.
Have a look at their website and let them know via the poll on the bottom left of the Fin City homepage, what you think of it! You could even join Fin City and discuss the subject, among many others, in the Fin City forum. Fin Ciy already has a lot to offer for everybody who practices a fin sport like finswimming, scubadiving, apnea, etc. but now it even does it in 52 languages!
