snowfins2011 211x300 Snow Fins 2012   Some news from www.ruf.ru [RESULTS]Since February 3th until 8th, 2012 the Russian City of Tomsk has held the II International finswimming competitions called “Snow Fins”. The organizers were the administration of the Tomsk region, the Legislative Duma of Tomsk region, the administration of the City of Tomsk, and the Tomsk Regional Underwater Federation.

Finswimmers from 11 Countries came to Toms to partecipate to this spectacular competition: Japan, Turkey, Greece, Thailand, Ukraine, Spain, France, Croatia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, as well as from the cities of Russia – Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Barnaul, Rostov-on-Don.

On February 4th, 2012 the mayor of Tomsk Nikolay Nikolaychuk declared the competition officially open at the ceremony.

“On behalf of all Tomich, welcome participants and guests of the event in Tomsk (Siberia), – said Mykola Nikolaychuk – the Finswimming competition “Snow Fins” is held in our city for the second time, and this became a good tradition. I wish you new victories to athletes, judges, and fans and I hope it will be a brilliant show.”

She said: “We are in Tomsk, for the second time, and we note that the popularity of “Snow Fins” is growing – in 2011 they took part in seven countries and in 2012 they were already 11. We are grateful to the organizers of the event, residents of Tomsk,they made this competition comfortable, here is friendly and there is a warm atmosphere. “In honor of the opening cerimony, which was attended by athletes from 11 countries, representatives of the Administration of Tomsk and Tomsk region, the Legislative Duma of Tomsk region, representatives of the World Confederation of Underwater Activities.

At the competition was attended by chiefs, including President of the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS) Achille Ferrero and the CMAS Secretary General Alessandro Zerbi. And also – a member of the board of directors CMAS, president of the Federation of Russian Underwater Sports Arzhanova Anna, members of the International Commission on Finswimming  CMAS Andre Dominic, Zdenek Skruzhny and Michelle Gaunard, members of the board of directors of CMAS Bendo Lee, Shinji Elias, Eshizava Ksiyarakos, Inkilap Obruk, Natalia Grechikhin.

The program of the event organizers have included a real gift for the audience – “Relay Masters” (a Finswimming distance of 8x50m), which was attended by the World Team, which included the strongest foreign athletes and team of Tomsk, led by the best athlete of the last of the 10th anniversary of version of the CMAS Evgeny Skorzhenko.

Tomsk team: World Champions – Evgeny Skorzhenko, Dmitry Kokorev, Andrey Burakov, Maria Radchenko, Elena Osmolskaya, European Champions – Anna Ber and Nikolai Kriulko, Russian Champion Elizabeth Andrienko.

Evgeny Skorzhenko was the World leader in underwater races since 2000 until 2008 and he is considered one of the best athletes of the Tomsk region in the entire history of its existence. Evgeny Skorzhenko was the first time champion and World record holder in underwater races at the age of 16 (2000). A total of 25 World Records. For 8 years Skorzhenko hit the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest finswimmer in the World. His name is listed in the Encyclopedia of Children’s Sport. Three times voted the best athlete of  CMAS, in fact – the best in the world among all members of the many underwater sports.

Other good Finswimmers at “Snow Fins”: Europe medalist and champion of France, Alexander Noir (France), a multiple Europe medalist Sofia Ktena (Greece), the Winner of the World Cup, William Baldwin (Greece), Alain Kochetkova (Spain), the Junior champion Dennis Grubnik (Ukraine), multiple champion and world record holder Valeria Baranovska (Russia), champion of Japan Takao Ikeguchi (Japan); record holder and European Champion, winner of world championships Camille Heitz (France).

With some difficulties the team of Tomsk won the “Relay Masters.”

At the end of the competition were summed up. Athletes from Tomsk won 14 gold, 12 – silver and 18 bronze medals.

As a result of the strongest athletes are named:

“The best athlete in the bi-fins for women” - Medea Kabanov (Novosibirsk),
“The best athlete in the bi-fins of men” - Alexander Iwaniec (Novosibirsk),
“The best athlete in the bi-fins among girls” - Olga Kisileva (Tomsk),
“Best Athlete of the bi-fins among boys” - Vladimir Maltsev (Perm), Skurlatov Alexander (Irkutsk),
“The best athlete on the swimming fins of young men” - Nikita Kowal (Krasnoyarsk),
“The best stayer Women” - Valeria Baranowska (Taganrog),
“The best long distance runners among men” - Vladimir Sokolov (Krasnoyarsk) ,
“Best International Athlete” - Paul William Baldwin (Greece),
“Super Sprint Women” - Anna Behr (Tomsk),
“Super-Sprint among men” - Pavel Kabanov (Novosibirsk).
