Ecco i risultati completi della oramai quinta edizione della Christmas Cup, classica gara di Nuoto Pinnato che si svolge a ridosso del Natale. La manifestazione si è svolta presso la Piscina Olimpionica di Lignano Sabbiadoro nel week end del 17 e 18 Dicembre 2011.

Nessun’altra gara riesce a regalare ciò che la Christmas Cup riesce a trasmettere ai suoi tantissimi partecipanti. Giunta alla sua quinta edizione la classica di Natale si è svolta quest’anno con il proprio regolamento allargato a tutte le categorie propaganda, agonistiche e masters, e con un successo incredibile viste le adesioni pervenute.

Dopo la prima giornata di gare, che ha coinvolto veramente tutti, ecco la festa di Natale con al suo interno l’incoronamento dell’atleta dell’anno 2011, Cesare Fumarola, apparso veramente emozionato in mezzo a tanti giovani curiosi di sapere come poter fare per emulare le sue gesta ed autori di tante e tante domande…

Ed è stata una festa nella festa, in acqua e fuori dall’acqua, ma soprattutto nella mente dei tantissimi partecipanti che hanno regalato il solito spettacolo coreografico nella sfilata di apertura e tanta e tanta euforia durante tutta la manifestazione.

Che dire, difficile parlare di risultati in un contesto del genere che ha visto la vittoria veramente di tutti, grandi e piccoli…..

The Venezuelan Underwater Federation (FVAS), with the auxilium of the Asociación Neoespartana de Actividades Subacuáticas (ANAS) organized the Results National Championship Underwater Activities 2011, on 25th, 26th and 27th of Noviember 2011.

The event had 8 clubs, and the sports were Finswimming and Apnea, and also Long Distance. During this championsip 3 new National Senior Records and 4 Youth National Records of Venezuela.

Croatian Finswimming Championship for Clubs 2011 – Split

Last Saturday in Poljud swimming pool (Split, Croatia) the Croatian Championshp for Clubs has been organized by Croatian Diving Federation and the club PIK Mornar Split.

Program covered 100, 200, 400 and 800 m finswimming, 50, 100, 200 m bi-fins, 800 m immersion, 50 m apnea and 4×100 relay. For each club a maximum of 2 swimmers per each race and sex could be considered for the competition. A swimmer could not take part in more than 5 individual races.

The best Croatian club in 2011 is Diving Club Geronimo from Zagreb, which collected 22,037 points, the second one is Drava from Varaždin (21,663), the third one is PIK Mornar Split (19,587), while the fourth is 3. Maj from Rijeka (19,156).

Geronimo shows a very big potential considering that their swimmers are on average 17-years old (the 33-years-od coach also swam rising this average) and their very good team spirit.

Drava has won the male competition, while 3. Maj the female competition, with Geronimo is second in both.

Several Croatian records have been broken, especially in junior categories where Matija Avirović from Drava Varaždin set 4 new Croatian records, proving that here finswimming is developing. Other interesting new records are these:

Vedrana Deren (DPS) in 200 bi-fins: 1’54”20 new Senior record
Lada Jakus (Nautilus) in 800 fs: 7’57”95 new Senior record
Karlo Seketin (Drava) in 200 bi-fins: 1’49”68 new Junior record

7 of 11 finswimming active Croatian clubs took part in the Championship. Some clubs are developping, like Geronimo, Drava, PIK and Šoderica Koprivnica (the latter not present, but it’s also considered a strong male team), some are rising recently (DPS), some are static (3. Maj and Nautilus), some losing positions (Kostrena, which 2 years ago was still the strongest one).

Here the video of the special race between Stefano Figini and the 4 Best Classical Swimmers of the Vikings Club of Rouen, taken on Saturday Night November 19th 2011 during the International Swimming Meeting called Arena Sprint. Stefano swam 200mts while them swam a relay 4x50mts, starting about 10 seconds before our Champion with the Monofin.

Finswimming Zagreb Stage – The Report

They already hosted this year Maksym Moroz (Ukraine), former 2000 European Long Distance Champion, and Gergely Juhos (Hungary), former 2004 World Champion in 400fs and 800fs. Last Saturday, 5th November, program “Geronimo Academy” took in Zagreb two Italian champions: Riccardo Galli, former 2003 European champion in 100fs, and the 3-gold-medals and 3-world-records holder from this year’s World Championship Stefano Figini, maybe the best male finswimmer of the last ten years.

They took part in “Zagreb Finswimming Saturday“, that was split in 4 parts, 2 theoretical and 2 practical. The first lesson started at 8 with Riccardo Galli talking about “sprint technique”: he explained how to save precious time in short distances such as 50 and 100 mt. Later all partecipants moved to the pool where they could practice the tips they heard: in the beginning they watched Galli and Figini showing jumps, turns and finishes, later they did them while being assisted by the two Italians.

In the afternoon Figini held a lesson about planning a season for a middle-distance (200, 400, 800 and 1500 mt.) finswimmer. Program went on with the final part, a not-official competition, where all people could test their skills. It started at 5.30pm and finished at 7.00pm with a 4×100 relay race.

During the 4×100 relay, attendance could watch Galli, Figini, Rubes Levada and Vedrana Deren swimming altogether in an “All Stars” relay. We note that Vedrana arrived twice 5th at World Championship 2011, held in Hungary, which is the best result ever for Croatia in finswimming. Bz the way, during the seminar a short clip of her competitions has been shown so she could finally a public applause, almost 2 months after her finals.

This competition was also the 3rd round of Regional League of finswimming, which is still not an official competition, but undergoing in 2011 a test-period for organizators. First round was held in Niš (Serbia), the second in Bijeljina (Bosnia-Herzegovina), while the fourth will take place next 3rd December a Kecskemet (Hungary), during their Santa Klaus Cup. Regional League includes also training camps, next to be held in January 2012 in Sarajevo – the first was in Banja Vrujci (Serbia), April 2011.

This happening has been organized by Diving Club Geronimo from Zagreb and Zagreb Diving Federation, and for the first time a Geronimo Academy event was open for not members, which were present with more than 80 athletes coming from 7 Croatian and 2 Serbian clubs.

Geronimo Academy will this year go on with other lessons only for RK Geronimo members, but in 2012 there will be another open seminar with other guests, as stated by Rubes Levada, former Italian team member, now finswimming coach in Zagreb and manager of sport teams in RK Geronimo.

Results Nemo Trophy 2011 – Zlin – Czech Rep.

Here all the results from the Nemo Trophy 2011, a famous International Finswimming competition taken in the town of Zlin in Czech Republic. We can notice some nice good results like the “unusual” race of 200mt Immersion, in which Denes Kanio swam the time of 1’17″65! And again in 1500mt sf the winner swam 12’44″60…but guess who! And rumors say that he is coming back to compete next year! Results also show that Hajnalka Debreceni and Zuzana Svozilova will be very strong in the upcoming season (Hajnalka 7:07,74 on 800m IM).

I got an unrefusable invitation from my close friend, Rubes Levada. This Italian guy, who lives in Zagreb, trains and manage a young Finswimming Club called “Geronimo”. He offered me a deal: visit them, show some technical excercises to improve the swimmers’ technic, and in exchange he shared with me his psichological and mental training theory.
I picked the last weekend of September. When I arrived on Saturday morning we immediately went to the pool. The swimmers were in groups and my task was to show them a swimming technique more efficient than what they used before. The swimmers were enthusiastic and I realized they soon learnt the new technique.
I wondered how they can make quality job when they often use only one lane. I’m used to train at the same time swimmers on different levels, and here it’s almost impossible. In my club we have the same problem, where I have to manage parallel swimmers on three different levels, but our advantage is that we have three lanes for it. Hard work, believe me! After the 2-hours training session we had lunch and Rubes shared with me his trainig theories. It’s so impressive the way he determinated points about what is necessary to improve in a swimmer, like physical and psichological fields. He’s got a well structured lesson which clearly explains this subject. After the “brainstorming” We visited the old town of Zagreb and had an excellent dinner.

Next day in the early afternoon I said goodbye to Croatia with many ideas in my mind. My opinion is that this kind of meetings may be very useful for both trainers and help the swimmers to reach their objectives. I hope it was useful for Rubes like for Me…
