L’atleta è diventato molto famoso nel mondo arabo perchè ha conseguito un Guinness World record con salto a delfino con monopinna. The World Games 2013 – Cali (COLOMBIA)

IWGA President Ron Froehlich announced the Executive Committee’s final decision to grant the hosting rights to Cali, COL, at one of his daily press conferences during The World Games in Kaohsiung, TPE, on 21 July 2009. “The Games will be held for the first time in South America,“ Froehlich proclaimed.

Bid leader Pascual Guerrero, who now heads the Cali Organizing Committee (COC), was able to explain the motivation behind the city’s bid for The World Games 2013 to the international press as well. “The excitement among the public here in Kaohsiung justifies our efforts all the more; this is what we can look forward to in Cali, in Colombia and around Latin America,” Guerrero said. “This event offers the people in South America the opportunity to learn more about interesting and fascinating sports, and it gives Cali a chance to push urban development.”

The conclusion of the Host City Contract was celebrated at the Cali Congress Center in August 2009. Then Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Veléz, who attended the celebrations, reaffirmed the national government’s all-out support to the Cali organizers in the lead-up and during The World Games 2013.

Cali will stage the multi-sport games together with two other cities in the Cauca Valley from 25 July to 4 August 2013. the Opening Ceremony will be held on 25 July, the day the City of Cali celebrates the 100th anniversary of its foundation. The organizers are preparing to seize the moment to promote the full breadth of sports to the world, and to bring about significant change to the nation, region and cities. The slogan for The World Games 2013 is Fair Play to the Planet! The COC is committed to pay particular attention to environmental friendliness in all its actions. Adding the new slogan to those used in the marketing of Cali makes for a promising formula. The city of Cali, aka “Heaven’s Branch Office,” and frequently labeled the “Sporting Capital of the Americas”, ensures “Fair Play to the Planet!” during The World Games 2013.

Cali brings considerable experience as an organizer of major sporting events to the challenge of staging The World Games. In 2008 Cali was host to the Colombian national multi-sport games with over 6,000 participants. The city was also an acclaimed host to the Pan-American Games and hundreds of large-scale international championships in the past. The most recent major event held there – in December 2009 – was the UCI Track Cycling World Cup. Cali and its partner cities in the Cauca Valley have the necessary infrastructure to accommodate The World Games. Even if all events will be hosted at existing venues, Cali has already embarked on a number of projects to improve them even further.

With a view to The World Games and the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is held in Cali and seven other Colombian cities in 2011, the 35,000- capacity multi-purpose main stadium was renovated completely over a period of only 16 months.

Will Finswimming be a “niche sport” forever?

As we can read in this page, Finswimming seems to be about 45 years old, taking as start the year in which the first European Championship was organized, that was the far 1967. Well in all of this time it has never broken through…and maybe it never will. What do you think about? Do you believe that one day Finswimming will be a Worldwide-Known sport, not like Soccer, but almost like Rugby or the Boxe, just to be sure if you ask someone the question: “Hey dude do you know what Finswimming is?” you finally will get an affermative answer? Or it will be a “niche sport” forever?

Here the official video about the Finswimming World Championships 2011 taken in Hungary in July/August. It’s a very good video with a lot of interviews to the best Finswimers all around the World, like Pavel Kabanov, Stefano Figini, Max Lauschus and many others. Gergely Juhos and his Croatian Memories

I got an unrefusable invitation from my close friend, Rubes Levada. This Italian guy, who lives in Zagreb, trains and manage a young Finswimming Club called “Geronimo”. He offered me a deal: visit them, show some technical excercises to improve the swimmers’ technic, and in exchange he shared with me his psichological and mental training theory.
I picked the last weekend of September. When I arrived on Saturday morning we immediately went to the pool. The swimmers were in groups and my task was to show them a swimming technique more efficient than what they used before. The swimmers were enthusiastic and I realized they soon learnt the new technique.
I wondered how they can make quality job when they often use only one lane. I’m used to train at the same time swimmers on different levels, and here it’s almost impossible. In my club we have the same problem, where I have to manage parallel swimmers on three different levels, but our advantage is that we have three lanes for it. Hard work, believe me! After the 2-hours training session we had lunch and Rubes shared with me his trainig theories. It’s so impressive the way he determinated points about what is necessary to improve in a swimmer, like physical and psichological fields. He’s got a well structured lesson which clearly explains this subject. After the “brainstorming” We visited the old town of Zagreb and had an excellent dinner.

Next day in the early afternoon I said goodbye to Croatia with many ideas in my mind. My opinion is that this kind of meetings may be very useful for both trainers and help the swimmers to reach their objectives. I hope it was useful for Rubes like for Me…

Stefano Figini premiato all’Expo della Brianza 2011

Stefano Figini e Sayed Baruki sono stati premiati all’Expo Brianza 2011 Venerdì 30 Settembre 2011 dall’Assessore dello Sport del Comune di Varedo Figini M. Ricordiamo che il ns Campione Stefano Figini ha conquistato ben tre Titoli agli ultimi Campionati del Mondo che si sono svolti nella città di Hódmezővásárhely in Ungheria a cavallo tra Luglio e Agosto, stabilendo altrettanti Record Mondiali, nelle specialità: 200np, 800np e 4x200np!

Zagreb Finswimming Stage – 05/11/2011

They already hosted this year Maksym Moroz (Ukraine), former European Long Distance Champion, and Gergely Juhos (Hungary), former World Champion in 400fs and 800fs: now Diving Club GERONIMO from Zagreb will expand their Geronimo Academy program receiving on Saturday, November 5th, two “giants” of the Italian Finswimming movement. The first, Riccardo Galli, is former World Junior Championship and European Senior Championship in 100fs; the second is the recent pluri-decorated World Champion and holder of several World records, Stefano Figini.

The program will be split in two parts: during the educational one Galli and Figini will hold a seminar about finswimming technique and tips for short and middle distance disciplines; the second part is a competition where attendants can already improve their performances. By the way, this competition is the 3rd leg of developping Regional League of Finswimming, which involves clubs from Serbia, Bosnia and RK Geronimo itself.

Dopo aver gia’ ospitato quest’anno Maksym Moroz (UKR), ex campione Europeo di fondo, e Gergely Juhos (HUN), ex campione del Mondo nei 400 e negli 800, il club di attivita’ subacquee RK Geronimo di Zagabria, tramite il suo programma Geronimo Academy, ospitera’ sabato 5 novembre due “monumenti” del pinnato italiano, Riccardo Galli, gia’ Campione Mondiale Giovanile e Campione Europeo sui 100, e il pluri-titolato Campione del Mondo e detentore di vari record mondiali in carica, Stefano Figini.

L’iniziativa si articola in due fasi: quella formativa dove Galli e Figini spiegheranno la tecnica del pinnato, come preparare le discipline di velocita’ e di mezzofondo, e quella agonistica con una gara in cui i partecipanti al seminario possano subito cimentarsi. Questa gara e’ tra l’altro il 3o turno della nascente Lega Regionale di Nuoto Pinnato che attualmente vede coinvolti club della Serbia e della Bosnia, oltre al RK Geronimo
