Bid leader Pascual Guerrero, who now heads the Cali Organizing Committee (COC), was able to explain the motivation behind the city’s bid for The World Games 2013 to the international press as well. “The excitement among the public here in Kaohsiung justifies our efforts all the more; this is what we can look forward to in Cali, in Colombia and around Latin America,” Guerrero said. “This event offers the people in South America the opportunity to learn more about interesting and fascinating sports, and it gives Cali a chance to push urban development.”

The conclusion of the Host City Contract was celebrated at the Cali Congress Center in August 2009. Then Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Veléz, who attended the celebrations, reaffirmed the national government’s all-out support to the Cali organizers in the lead-up and during The World Games 2013.

Cali will stage the multi-sport games together with two other cities in the Cauca Valley from 25 July to 4 August 2013. the Opening Ceremony will be held on 25 July, the day the City of Cali celebrates the 100th anniversary of its foundation. The organizers are preparing to seize the moment to promote the full breadth of sports to the world, and to bring about significant change to the nation, region and cities. The slogan for The World Games 2013 is Fair Play to the Planet! The COC is committed to pay particular attention to environmental friendliness in all its actions. Adding the new slogan to those used in the marketing of Cali makes for a promising formula. The city of Cali, aka “Heaven’s Branch Office,” and frequently labeled the “Sporting Capital of the Americas”, ensures “Fair Play to the Planet!” during The World Games 2013.

Cali brings considerable experience as an organizer of major sporting events to the challenge of staging The World Games. In 2008 Cali was host to the Colombian national multi-sport games with over 6,000 participants. The city was also an acclaimed host to the Pan-American Games and hundreds of large-scale international championships in the past. The most recent major event held there – in December 2009 – was the UCI Track Cycling World Cup. Cali and its partner cities in the Cauca Valley have the necessary infrastructure to accommodate The World Games. Even if all events will be hosted at existing venues, Cali has already embarked on a number of projects to improve them even further.

With a view to The World Games and the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is held in Cali and seven other Colombian cities in 2011, the 35,000- capacity multi-purpose main stadium was renovated completely over a period of only 16 months.

The FPAS (Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities) has the initiative to actively promote dynamic apnea, shooting underwater and Finswimming (Natação com Barbatanas) and so he invited three members of the FEDA (Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities) to teach the course.

The rules of the discipline was given by Vice-Chairman of National Committee of Finswimming and international referee CMAS (CMAS Judge Delegate), Manuel Castro Casal. The technical part was given by the coach of the National Committee of Finswimming, head of the Department of Finswimming of the EC Mediterranean FECDAS and coach, Ivan Alonso Portela. And, as a representative of the athletes came in Catalan, Miguel Rodriguez Munoz, finswimmer of the Spanish FEDAS, national recordman of the Mediterranean Commission, which was responsible for demonstrations at the pool.

They found among the participants, coaches and classical swimmers, underwater hockey players and underwater fishing athletes, and they were always very interested in the theoretical sessions and were very motivated during the session of water which could make training “base” of Finswimming testing the Monofin (monobarbatana) for the first time.

In brief, the Commission Swimming with fins of FPAS plans to partecipate to some of the major competitions held in Spain and thus ended up making a better idea of how globally this exciting underwater sport.

The decision was taken by the IOC Executive Board (EB) ahead of the 123rd IOC Session in Durban, South Africa, and follows the inclusion in April of ski halfpipe (men and women), women’s ski jumping, biathlon mixed relay, figure skating team event and luge team relay.

“We are very pleased with the addition of ski and snowboard slopestyle and snowboard special slalom in the Olympic Winter Games programme,” said IOC President Jacques Rogge. “Such events provide great entertainment for the spectators and add further youthful appeal to our already action-packed lineup of Olympic winter sports. We look forward to welcoming all the athletes to Sochi in 2014.”

The Olympic Programme Commission (OPC) initially proposed the inclusion of the events to the EB in Acapulco in October last year. The OPC studied the proposal of the individual International Sports Federations and, at the request of the EB, compiled a detailed analysis of all candidate events at their respective world championships last winter. The decision was also based on an operational feasibility study undertaken by the organisers of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games.

The EB also agreed on a shortlist of sports that will be considered for inclusion in the sports programme of the 2020 Olympiad. The sports are: baseball, karate, roller sports, softball, sports climbing, squash, wakeboard and wushu, one of which could be added to the 2020 sports programme to be voted on by the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires in 2013. The programme can include a maximum of 28 sports.

Domani si riunisce a Durban (Sud Africa) la 123 Sessione del CIO per scegliere la città che ospiterà le Olimpiadi Invernali del 2018. Le candidate sono: Annecy (Francia), Monaco (Germania), Pyeongchang (Corea).
L’Executive Board del Comitato Olimpico Internazionale, che si è svolto nella città sudafricana, ha deciso l’inserimento di altre discipline nel programma olimpico di Sochi del 2014. Si tratta dello slopestyle maschile e femminile nello snowboard e nello sci oltre allo slalom speciale parallelo nello snowboard maschile e femminile.
Si allunga così la lista dei titoli che già nello scorso mese di aprile erano stati aggiunti al programma olimpico invernale: salto femminile, slittino a squadre, staffetta mista nel biathlon, halfpipe nel freestyle. Il totale delle medaglie di Sochi sale così a 294 per 98 discipline diverse.

Nella stessa riunione inoltre è stata presentata la lista degli sport che eventualmente potrebbero essere inseriti nel programma olimpico dei Giochi estivi 2020. Queste le discipline: Softball, Baseball, Karate, Squash, Pattinaggio a rotelle, Wushu, Wakeboard, Arrampicata sportiva. Solo uno di questi sport potra’ essere inserito nel programma olimpico che deve comprendere al massimo 28 discipline.
La decisione sarà presa nel corso della sessione del CIO a Buenos Aires nel 2013. Domani intanto la 123 Sessione del CIO sceglierà la città che ospiterà le Olimpiadi Invernali del 2018 tra Annecy (Francia), Monaco (Germania), Pyeongchang (Corea).
