The 2026 CMAS European Championship Finswimming Indoor Juniors is set to bring together Europe’s most promising young athletes for a week of high-level competition and international exchange. Scheduled from 6 to 12 June 2026, the championship will take place on the Greek island of Chios, offering both a prestigious sporting stage and a culturally rich environment for participants and visitors alike.
A major international junior event
Organised under the authority of the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques, the championship represents one of the most important events on the European junior finswimming calendar. It showcases emerging talent and reinforces the sport’s long-term development by giving young competitors the opportunity to perform in a high-performance international setting.
The event is hosted by the Hellenic Aquatics Federation, whose president, Kyriakos Giannopoulos, highlights the competition as a celebration of youth, athletic dedication, and the future of finswimming. Greece’s continued commitment to international aquatic sport is evident in its organisation of major competitions and its support for developing athletes across Europe.
Chios: a Mediterranean setting for elite sport
Located in the northern Aegean Sea, Greece provides a scenic and historically rich backdrop for the championship. Chios is known for its maritime heritage, medieval villages, and the famous mastic resin produced exclusively on the island. This blend of natural beauty and cultural identity makes it an appealing destination for international sporting events.
The island has already demonstrated its capacity to host major finswimming competitions, building valuable organisational experience that supports the successful delivery of this European championship.
The competition venue
Races will take place at the Ionikon Swimming Complex, a modern indoor facility designed for large-scale international competition. The venue features:
- A 50-metre indoor pool with 10 lanes
- Water depth between approximately 2.05 and 2.20 metres
- Controlled water temperature around 26°C
- Seating capacity for roughly 3,000 spectators
The complex also includes extensive athlete and official facilities, such as large dressing areas, recovery and massage rooms, meeting spaces, and dedicated areas for ceremonies and event operations. These technical standards ensure optimal conditions for performance, logistics, and spectator experience.
A celebration of youth and performance
Beyond competition results, the championship aims to strengthen international cooperation, inspire the next generation of athletes, and promote finswimming across Europe. By gathering junior competitors, coaches, and officials in one location, the event reinforces both sporting excellence and community within the discipline.
With elite young athletes, a proven host destination, and modern facilities, the 2026 European Junior Indoor Championship is positioned to be a key milestone in the continued growth of competitive finswimming.
