Start Date: Nov 8th, 2024 | End Date: Nov 9th, 2024

The 57th International Finswimming Cup will be hosted in Rostock, Germany, from November 8th to 9th, 2024. This prestigious event, organized by the Tauchsportclub Rostock 1957 e.V., brings together top finswimmers from around the world to compete in one of the oldest and most celebrated finswimming competitions. The event will take place at the Neptunschwimmhalle in Rostock, known for its 50-meter, six-lane pool with a depth of 2.10 meters and a water temperature maintained at 27.5°C. The competition will feature electronic timekeeping, ensuring precise and accurate results for all participants.

Event Schedule

The competition will unfold over two days, starting with the first session on Friday, November 8th. Athletes will gather for warm-ups from 16:00 to 16:50, followed by the team leader and judges’ meetings. The opening ceremony will begin at 17:00, kicking off the official events shortly after.

The first day’s highlights include:

  • The mixed relay (4 x 50m SF) with teams composed of two men and two women.
  • A range of individual races such as the 100m and 200m Immersion (IM) and 50m and 400m Surface (SF) races.
  • The day will end with the highly anticipated 4 x 100m IM relays for both men and women, scheduled to conclude by 21:00.

The second day of the competition, November 9th, will begin with warm-ups from 12:00 to 12:50, and the races will resume at 13:00. Highlights for this day include:

  • The special “Everyone Relay” event (4 x 50m SF Mixed), which brings together all competitors for a fun and inclusive race.
  • Key events such as the 400m IM for men, which is part of the Detlef-Meyer-Memorial Cup, and the 200m SF for women, competing for the prestigious Cup of the Mayor of Rostock.
  • The final relay races will conclude at approximately 17:00, with the official closing ceremony and banquet starting at 19:30.

The third session will feature a celebration with a banquet and party at the swimming facility’s marble hall, starting at 19:30 and ending at midnight. This gathering will provide participants an opportunity to unwind, celebrate victories, and foster camaraderie among the teams.

Key Highlights and Awards

The 57th International Finswimming Cup will feature various individual and team competitions, with races for both men and women across multiple distances and disciplines. Special attention will be given to the 400m IM Men’s event, as competitors vie for the Detlef-Meyer-Memorial Cup, named in honor of a respected figure in the sport. Similarly, women will compete for the Cup of the Mayor of Rostock in the 200m SF event.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three competitors in every individual race, and special prizes will be given to the best overall athletes in key events, including the 400m IM and 200m SF. Additionally, the best-performing team will receive a challenge cup, awarded to the team with the most points calculated according to the CMAS Points Table. In relay races, points will be doubled, further incentivizing teamwork and coordination.

Youth competitors (born in 2007 or later) will also have the opportunity to showcase their skills, with cups awarded to the top-performing boys and girls based on their results in the individual races, calculated using a 1000-point system.

Competition Regulations and Entry Requirements

All competitors are expected to adhere to the competition rules set forth by the German Divers Federation (VDST) and CMAS (World Underwater Federation). To ensure safety, all participants must have passed a medical examination within the last 12 months, and any air bottles used during the competition must have a valid certification, no older than 2.5 years.

Each team is allowed to have up to five men and five women, with no limit on the number of teams a club can enter. Competitors will be ranked both individually and as part of their teams, with relays contributing significantly to the team rankings.

Conclusion

The 57th International Finswimming Cup promises to be an exciting and competitive event, bringing together top finswimmers from across the globe. With a packed schedule of races, prestigious cups, and special awards, the competition will showcase the best talent in finswimming. Athletes and fans alike can look forward to two days of high-paced action, culminating in a celebratory banquet and party. For those attending, it will be an unforgettable experience in the historic city of Rostock.
