Countries Europe Italy

I won’t introduce him to you, because you know him very good. He is from Modena (Italy), a Spinter with no many equals in the planet, he was World and European Champion in 100sf on 2007 and 2008. Let’s know Cesare Fumarola! English and Italian interview!

🇮🇹 Cesare Fumarola, the Italian Swift [2010], Finswimmer Magazine - Finswimming News

🇮🇹 Cesare Fumarola, the Italian Swift [2010], Finswimmer Magazine - Finswimming NewsHello Cesare, obviously you don’t need to be introduced at all…so only for the newbees speak about your long career since the beginning, to the Gold Medal at Worlds, until today.
I started when I was soo young, and at the age of 6 my first Finswimming competition. at 13 my first national gold medal and at 17 yo I got 3 gold medals at Youth Euros.. and again 2 Senior European Gold Medals (when Russians didn’t swim). Between 2004 and 2005 I got a little crisis, because of the kind of trainings of my team.. how can I say…a bit too basic, and so to improve my level, I asked help to trainers like Mazzei and Landi. Hard work produced good results already the next year, when I swam in the 4×200 World Gold Medal in Turin 2006 and not beated yet. In 2007 my best performance, my first individual Gold Medal in 100 mt, for sure my best, remarked also the next year at Europeans in Hungary. 2009 was not very good, delusions at World Games in Taiwan where I had the worst phisical and mental conditions, because of lacks of my trainers.

Did you practice any other sports before? Which ones? And how was it?
I always practiced other sports until I was 13 yo, i was a very active boy and I needed to “waste” my energies every day. From artistic ski to volley, then handball and soccer.. but apart the fun, they didn’t give me so many feedbacks, and i never didn’t like Teams Sports..

St Petersburg Worlds, how did they go?
I have very good memories about it, there was a nice “background” during all the competitions week, and I have to say that the Show was very cool. The thing that impressed me was that my friends could see my competitions on the net.. an important fact for our sport! very emotionally! And I’m sure that it was possible because there are people that love this sport.

Your targets for the future…
Very nice question Davide! 2009 had to be my give up year, bu there is too much regret for having ended the season having been aware of the soul, but he did not have all the means available to relevant data in an athlete needs to express my level best. So, not Having obtained the release from my team to be able to change and air look for reasons elsewhere, in the meantime I keep in training waiting for August to finally decide my future.

What do you do in your life, apart Finswimming?
I’m enrolled at the university of business administration for some time with ridiculous results .. I work in the pool, in a pizzeria with my parents .. I like to draw, build things with any material, sewing and at last fishing .. it is a very nice activity which helps to relax and listen. In my free time I act just like people of my age .. the most d ifficult thing is to find the time!

Who is your favourite athlete? And why?
There’s no one in particular, I can say that in my career I have enjoyed many athletes during my career. The first one was Richard Galli, I was 13-14 years old and he was a phenomenon in Italy, was an example for me. Then certainly Stefano Figini, a great athlete and a great friend. I was lucky enough to follow his growth and his experiencing the difficulties he had in recent years to become what he is today, and his great character and determination have always impressed me. The athlete who is more but I dislike is Andrea Nava, he believes himself as the most beautiful, thought to be the leader just because he is a policeman and then he has ridiculous calf .. I think it’s also jealous of me! (I’m joking…Great Nava!)

If you could help our sport, what would you do?
I’m trying to organize in my city meetings with schools, talking to young people to promote our sport and also sport in general. I think it’s pretty idea that would contribute to the growth of finswimming, in addition to sending an important message to young people who often end up to attend ugly environments .. It’s not easy, but it is right to try!

Do you own a Web Site? Do you think that internet could help Finswimming to be more famous?
No, I’m not so advanced to have a website .. I’m not like Figini! The “net” is already doing much to our sport, from this simple interview that many people can read, a lot of the videos which are so many, some websites, followed by people like at the last World have really done a great job of passion. I think I speak on behalf of many others, saying that without a doubt for the development of finswimming we really need people like you!

Sport & youngs, what would you tell to a young fellow that is starting to finswim?
“Dear boy/girl don’t hurry to smash everything, learn well and carefully the technique now that you’re young, it’s something that you always carry with you, there is a lot of time for the new monofins, don’t controverse, especially with your mates even they are nasty, always shake hands with your opponent, whether you win or you loose, learn to work hard, because it is unavoidable if you want to get results! and triy to smile and have fun forever!”

Say what you want (free topic)
Well I use this chance to make a small tribute to a great man and coach as Valter Mazzei. I’m glad he recovered from physical problems. For many years, even before being instructed by the federation, he is doing a great job for us “old in the national team” but also for the youth sector. I wanted to thank him because this summer he has made me truly realize that it was a real shame if I had stopped swimming, unlike my former coaches who are worried only that I was going to swim in another company, at the cost to make me stop to swim, shifting the emphasis to the importance of the athlete. This is not part of my vision of “sport”, I thought in these years of having made him understand what he meant to do sports, but apparently I failed .. one day I hope to learn it, so I can teach their children.

I also thank you for this space, it was a real pleasure

Hai praticato altri sport in precedenza? Se si quali? E come ti trovavi?

E come mai?
