A Grand Finale to the World Cup Series

The Golden Final is the culmination of the CMAS (World Underwater Federation) Finswimming World Cup circuit, a series of competitions held in various locations worldwide throughout the year. Only the top-performing athletes from previous rounds have earned the right to compete in Lignano Sabbiadoro, making this event a gathering of elite talent. Each competitor has fought hard to earn their place in this prestigious final, where the stakes are higher than ever, and the quest for the title of World Cup Champion reaches its zenith.

As the final leg of the series, the Golden Final is not just another race; it’s the most important event of the year for finswimmers. A win here cements an athlete’s legacy, while strong performances in multiple events are necessary to secure overall World Cup titles. Fans, athletes, and coaches alike are looking forward to the high-energy races, where fractions of a second can make the difference between victory and defeat.

Why Lignano Sabbiadoro?

Located on the northern Adriatic coast, Lignano Sabbiadoro is one of Italy’s most popular resort destinations, famous for its golden beaches, vibrant tourist culture, and stunning natural beauty. But in mid-October, the city will transform into the global center of finswimming as it hosts the world’s most talented aquatic athletes.

The Bella Italia Sports Village will serve as the venue for the event, providing a modern aquatic center with state-of-the-art facilities. This venue has hosted many major international competitions, making it a fitting stage for the Golden Final. Lignano Sabbiadoro’s combination of excellent infrastructure and natural charm creates an ideal backdrop for athletes and visitors alike.

The Competitions and the Athletes

The CMAS Finswimming World Cup Golden Final will feature a range of events across different distances and disciplines, including surface swimming, immersion, and apnea. Athletes will race in distances ranging from 50 meters to 1500 meters, requiring a mix of speed, stamina, and technique. Each race will be closely contested, as the athletes have spent the entire season honing their skills in preparation for this moment.

Some of the most exciting events include the sprint distances, such as the 50m and 100m Surface, where finswimmers reach breathtaking speeds using monofins. These races will be electric, with athletes battling for every inch in the water. For those who excel in endurance events, the 400m and 800m Surface will be key events to watch, testing the athletes’ ability to maintain speed and technique over longer distances.

Monofin swimming is especially known for its high speeds, as athletes use powerful undulating movements to glide through the water, propelled by the large monofin. Other events will see swimmers using bifins (two separate fins), or competing in apnea, where athletes hold their breath for the entire duration of shorter distances. The relay events, which feature teams of four swimmers, also promise to deliver drama and excitement as strategy and teamwork play a vital role in securing victory.

The Global Stage of Finswimming

As the final event of the World Cup circuit, the Golden Final is not just a competition—it’s a celebration of the sport and its international community. Finswimmers from across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and other regions will converge in Lignano Sabbiadoro, representing their countries and seeking to make a name for themselves on the world stage. For many, this competition marks the highlight of their year, while for others, it is the culmination of years of dedication and training.

Fans of finswimming can expect to see some of the sport’s biggest names competing for top honors, including former World Champions and rising stars. The Golden Final also serves as a platform for younger athletes to showcase their potential, with many hoping to secure future success at senior-level championships and international competitions, including the World Championships and the World Games, where finswimming is featured as a key event.

Looking Forward to the Golden Final

The CMAS Finswimming World Cup 2024 Golden Final promises to be an exhilarating conclusion to the World Cup series. With Lignano Sabbiadoro providing the perfect setting, the event will combine high-level competition with the joy of international camaraderie. Athletes will push themselves to their limits in pursuit of victory, and spectators will witness some of the fastest finswimmers in the world competing at their peak.

Whether you’re an avid follower of finswimming or new to the sport, the 2024 Golden Final in Lignano Sabbiadoro will undoubtedly be an unforgettable event filled with thrilling races, stunning performances, and the celebration of the sport’s very best athletes. The world will be watching as the finest finswimmers dive into the pool, ready to make their mark on this historic event.
