On Sunday, 8 February 2026, the city of Dresden will once again become a focal point for German and international finswimming, as it hosts the 36th Open Saxony Finswimming Championships alongside the 19th Saxony Masters Championships. The event will take place at the Schwimmsportkomplex Freiberger Platz, a modern competition venue located in the heart of the Saxon capital.
Organization and Venue
The championships are organized by the Landestauchsportverband Sachsen e.V., with the Tauchclub Dresden-Mitte e.V. acting as the local host. Athletes will compete in a 50-metre pool with eight lanes, wave-breaking lane ropes, a water depth of 1.80 metres, and a constant water temperature of 27°C. All races will be timed electronically using the ALGE Timing TM-SWIM system, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current competition standards.
Competition Schedule
The competition day will begin early, with venue access from 08:00 and warm-up scheduled between 08:15 and 09:15. After the official opening at 09:20, the first race will start at 09:30. The programme is structured into several sections, interspersed with short breaks and medal ceremonies, allowing for a full day of high-level racing.
The race schedule includes a wide range of distances and disciplines, such as Apnoea (AP), Bi-Fins (BF), Surface (SF), Immersion (ST), and long-distance finswimming (FS). Individual events range from explosive 50-metre sprints to demanding 800-metre races, while relay events over 4×100 metres add a strong team dimension to the championships. Mixed relays and separate classifications for women and men ensure broad participation across all categories.
A notable feature concerns the Masters competitions: in the 400-metre events, Masters athletes may freely choose between 400 m Surface (FS) or 400 m Bi-Fins (BF), with a separate Masters classification applied despite sharing heats with other competitors.
Participation and Eligibility
The championships are open to athletes registered with clubs holding valid start rights for VDST finswimming competitions, as well as to international competitors affiliated with CMAS-registered clubs. Both Saxon and non-Saxon athletes may participate, with Saxon competitors additionally eligible for the official Saxony Championship titles.
Strict adherence to VDST competition rules and national anti-doping regulations is mandatory. All athletes must present a valid sports medical examination not older than one year on the day of competition; without it, participation will not be permitted.
Classifications and Awards
Results will be evaluated separately for the Open Championships and the Saxony Championships, with detailed age-group classifications from youth categories through to Masters. In individual Saxony classifications, medals and certificates will be awarded to the top three finishers, while certificates will be issued down to sixth place. Similar award structures apply to relay events and Masters categories, recognizing performance across all age groups.
Entries and Practical Information
Entries must be submitted electronically via LENEX files or through the official online entry portal. The entry deadline is Wednesday, 28 January 2026 at 23:59, with free withdrawals possible until the evening of 27 January. Entry fees are set at €7.00 per individual start and €9.00 per relay start, payable in advance.
Live timing, start lists, results, and official documents will be made available through the event’s online platform, ensuring transparency and accessibility for teams, officials, and spectators alike.
A Key Early-Season Event
With its comprehensive race programme, inclusive structure for youth, elite, and Masters athletes, and a reputation for strong organization, the 2026 Open Saxony Championships in Dresden promise to be a significant early-season benchmark. For many competitors, the event will serve both as a championship target and as a valuable performance indicator ahead of the main national and international competitions later in the year.
