The French Federation of Underwater Sports Activities (FFESSM) is set to host its prestigious National Club Finswimming Championship in Dijon this December, bringing together the country’s top finswimming athletes for two days of intense competition.
World-Class Venue
The championship will take place at the Olympic Pool Dijon Métropole, a state-of-the-art facility featuring a 50-meter competition pool with 10 lanes and starting blocks on both sides. Athletes will also have access to a 25-meter, 4-lane warm-up and recovery pool throughout the event.
Competition Format
The event showcases three primary finswimming disciplines:
Surface Swimming (SF) – Athletes swim on the surface using monofins or bifins Bifins (BI) – Swimming with two separate fins Apnea (AP) – Underwater swimming holding one’s breath Immersion (IS) – Underwater swimming with breathing apparatus
Competition distances range from sprint 50-meter races to endurance 800-meter events, with both individual races and team relays scheduled across multiple sessions.
Schedule Highlights
The action begins Saturday morning at 9:00 AM with opening events including the unique 6x100m mixed relay (combining bifins, surface, and immersion swimmers) and continues through Sunday afternoon. A special opening ceremony on Saturday at 2:40 PM will honor 2025’s junior and senior international medalists.
One of the most anticipated events is Sunday afternoon’s elimination finals, where the top swimmers from preliminary heats will compete head-to-head for championship titles in multiple disciplines.
Masters Competition
In addition to the main championship, the event features a dedicated Masters competition for veteran swimmers, with specialized events scheduled throughout the weekend including 100m surface, 200m bifins, and a 4x100m team relay.
Sustainable Competition
Organizers have emphasized environmental responsibility, asking participating clubs to carefully manage waste and properly use changing facilities. The event also includes practical services like bottle filling stations for immersion equipment and on-site food options, including pre-orderable meal packages.
Looking Ahead
With competitors representing clubs from across France, this championship serves as both a showcase of elite finswimming talent and a celebration of the sport’s growing community. The combination of individual excellence and team relay events creates a dynamic atmosphere that highlights both personal achievement and club unity.
