German Finswimming Calendar for 2025

Countries Europe Germany
FINSWIMMER MAGAZINE

The German Finswimming Calendar for 2025 presents an exciting lineup of competitions, training events, and international engagements that will bring together finswimmers from across the country and around the world. The events range from local championships and youth meets to significant world-class events, culminating in prestigious competitions like the CMAS World Championships and the World Games in Chengdu, China. Below, I’ll highlight the key events, their significance, and their expected impact on Germany’s finswimming community.

National Events

Germany’s finswimming season opens with the Thüringer Landesmeisterschaften on January 25 in Erfurt. This early event is a platform for German athletes to showcase their skills, acting as a stepping stone into the rigorous season ahead. Following this, Berlin hosts the Berliner Meisterschaften in February, providing more opportunities for athletes to refine their techniques and gain competition experience. A notable youth event, the 51st International Heilbronner Jugend-Tauch-Turnier, also takes place in February, inviting young talents to test their mettle and network with fellow finswimmers from different regions.

In May, Rostock will host the 55th Deutsche Jugendmeisterschaften (German Youth Championships), bringing together the nation’s top young athletes. This championship acts as a high-stakes qualifier, as it often serves as a preview for the next generation of finswimmers who may represent Germany on an international level.

June will see the Offene Deutsche Meisterschaften (Open German Championships) in Rostock. This prominent event includes multiple categories, such as junior and masters divisions, making it one of the country’s most comprehensive domestic competitions. The championships are open, allowing international athletes to compete, creating a unique environment of high competition, camaraderie, and skill development.

August brings the German finswimming community to Halbendorfer See for open-water competitions. This event is essential for athletes focusing on endurance and mastering outdoor elements. It prepares participants for the challenges they might face in international open-water competitions later in the year, like the CMAS championships in Egypt.

International Competitions

Germany’s commitment to international finswimming is evident in its participation in the 19th CMAS World Cup. The World Cup features multiple rounds across Europe, including stops in France, Italy, and Spain. Germany sends strong representatives to these stages, providing exposure to high-level international competition.

In June, the world’s top junior finswimmers will head to Chios, Greece, for the CMAS 19th World Championship Finswimming Junior. Germany is expected to field a highly competitive team, aiming to gain medals and valuable international experience. This competition is crucial for young athletes hoping to transition to the senior level, where the stakes and intensity increase significantly.

In August, German finswimmers will take part in the 12th World Games in Chengdu, China. The World Games are a multi-sport event held every four years and are regarded as a significant global stage for finswimming. Competing in the World Games allows German athletes to perform on a grand international stage, reinforcing Germany’s standing in finswimming.

World Championships and Open-Water Events

One of the most anticipated events for German finswimmers in 2025 is the Senior and Junior Finswimming World Championship – Open Water in Egypt, scheduled for October. This championship will challenge athletes to compete in the Mediterranean waters off the Egyptian coast at Marina El Alamein. This open-water event is unique, as it presents a different skill set requirement compared to pool competitions. German athletes must demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and endurance, contending with natural water conditions like currents and variable visibility.

The Masters Finswimming World Championship – Open Water, also in Egypt, will provide Germany’s seasoned athletes an opportunity to compete in a challenging international environment. Germany has a strong showing in the masters category, with athletes who bring experience and refined technique to the sport.

Summary and Outlook

The German Finswimming Calendar for 2025 reflects a full spectrum of competitive events, from local championships to world-renowned tournaments. This schedule supports athlete development at all stages, from youth to master levels, while providing platforms for international exposure. For athletes and fans alike, 2025 is shaping up to be a year filled with opportunities to showcase Germany’s talents, foster sportsmanship, and strengthen finswimming’s community and global presence.
