“Golden Fin” Finswimming Competition in Novosibirsk, November 2024

From November 14 to 18, 2024, the city of Novosibirsk will host the prestigious “Golden Fin” finswimming competition. This highly anticipated event is part of the official calendar of the Russian Ministry of Sports and will be held at the Neptune Swimming Pool. It will feature some of Russia’s best young athletes in the underwater sports discipline.

Event Overview

The “Golden Flipper” competition will focus on junior finswimmers aged 14-17, born between 2007 and 2010. Athletes will participate in a range of events, including:

  • Swimming in fins (50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 400 m),
  • Classic fin swimming (50 m, 100 m),
  • Relay races, such as the 4x50m mixed relay and 4x100m team relay.

The event is structured to allow athletes to showcase their talents across both sprint and longer-distance races, with the competition designed to identify top finswimming talent across Russia. Participants will compete in preliminary heats with the aim of reaching the finals, where medals and team honors will be awarded.

Competition Format

The competition begins on November 14 with the arrival of participants, registration, and practice sessions. The official competition days will take place from November 15 to 17, with a mix of preliminary heats and finals scheduled.

  • November 15 will feature:
    • Opening ceremony.
    • Preliminary heats for the 50m races in fins and classic fins.
    • Finals for the 100m fins (men), 100m classic fins (women), 400m fins (men), and 200m fins (women).
  • November 16 will include:
    • Preliminary heats for the 50m races (men in fins and women in classic fins).
    • Finals for the 100m fins (women), 100m classic fins (men), 400m fins (women), and 200m fins (men).
    • A highly competitive 4x50m mixed relay.
  • November 17 will conclude the event with:
    • Finals for the 50m races (men and women).
    • Team relay races such as the 4x100m relay for both men and women.

The competition format ensures athletes are pushed to their limits, with the best of the best advancing through multiple rounds to the finals. The relay races, in particular, are expected to be a highlight, providing an opportunity for athletes to work together as teams.

A Platform for Rising Talent

The “Golden Fin” event is not just a chance for juniors to compete but also a significant opportunity for talent scouts and national team selectors. The event aims to identify promising athletes who could represent Russia in international competitions. As part of the competition’s broader goals, the top finswimmers will be included in the Russian national team candidate pool, advancing their athletic careers.

Safety and Compliance

The competition will follow strict safety protocols, including adherence to the Russian Anti-Doping Rules. Athletes will also be required to present a valid health insurance policy and undergo medical clearance before participating. In light of COVID-19 concerns, participants may also need to present proof of vaccination or recovery, depending on the local health regulations in effect at the time.

Venue and Logistics

The competition will be held at Neptune Swimming Pool, a 50-meter facility equipped with 8 lanes and an advanced ALGE SwimTime electronic timing system. This venue has hosted numerous national and regional competitions, making it an ideal location for an event of this scale.

Participants will be housed in nearby accommodations, such as the Tor Hotel in Novosibirsk, with various meal and boarding options available. Teams are expected to finalize their participation by October 14, 2024, and the entry fee for the event is set at 2,500 rubles per participant.

Conclusion

The “Golden Fin” competition in Novosibirsk will be a defining event for junior finswimmers in Russia. The competition will not only celebrate athletic excellence but also foster the development of future champions in underwater sports. As athletes prepare to compete, spectators and participants alike can look forward to an exciting showcase of speed, endurance, and skill in the water.
