Italy’s 6th National Finswimming Criterium Heads to Lignano Sabbiadoro
The A.S.D. Sportinacqua association is set to host the 6th edition of the Criterium Nazionale di Nuoto Pinnato — Italy’s National Finswimming Criterium — at the Villaggio Sportivo “Bella Italia” in Lignano Sabbiadoro (Udine), on the weekend of Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May 2026. The 50-metre, 8-lane pool at the Bella Italia Sports Village will welcome athletes from pre-competitive, competitive, master, and Paralympic categories.
Programme and Schedule
Participants are invited to arrive on the evening of Friday 8 May, with accreditation opening at 7:00 PM at the venue, followed by dinner at 8:30 PM.
Competition begins on Saturday morning with warm-up sessions, followed by a packed programme of 50-metre events across fins (pinne), monofin (mono), rubber monofin (mono in gomma), and apnea disciplines — catering to esordiente (novice), 1st, 2nd, and 3rd category athletes, as well as CMAS absolutes and masters. Saturday also features relay events and a timed 1,500-metre monofin trial for CMAS absolute athletes. The afternoon session continues with 100-metre and 400-metre events, plus an Under-18 relay.
On Sunday morning, 200-metre distances take centre stage, along with CMAS relay finals. The event wraps up around 2:00 PM, with teams departing after lunch.
Who Can Participate
All competing clubs must be affiliated with F.I.P.S.A.S. (the Italian Federation of Sport Fishing and Underwater Activities), and every athlete must hold a valid federal membership card along with a medical certificate of fitness for competitive sport. Individual athletes may enter an unlimited number of individual events, while each club may register one relay team per category.
Entry Fees and Registration
The registration fee is set at €8.00 per individual race entry, €16.00 per relay, and €25.00 per club. Late entries may be accepted at the organiser’s discretion, subject to a €50.00 surcharge. No changes or additions will be accepted at the venue.
Registration is handled exclusively through the online platform on the F.I.P.S.A.S. website (www.fipsas.it), and the system closes at midnight on the Sunday before the event. Payment must be made by bank transfer to A.S.D. Sportinacqua (IBAN: IT45O 03069 09606 100000114805).
An important note for visitors: access to the Bella Italia Village is restricted to guests staying on-site. Day visitors and athletes not residing there must pay a €10.00 daily entrance fee, though purchasing a meal voucher (€16.00 for table service) waives this charge.
Judging and Results
The event will be officiated by the National Finswimming Judges Group, with electronic timing provided by the Italian Federation of Timekeepers. Individual rankings will be compiled using the F.I.P.S.A.S.-CMAS scoring system, and the club accumulating the highest total points across all events will be awarded the Trofeo Criterium Nazionale — the national club trophy.
Awards
All esordiente athletes who finish a race will receive individual recognition. In older categories (1st through to CMAS absolutes and masters), medals and awards go to the top three finishers. The top three clubs overall will also receive trophies or commemorative plaques.
Master Categories
The competition includes three master age groups: Master A (ages 20–39), Master B (ages 40–54), and Master C (ages 55 and above).
Practical and Safety Notes
Each participating club must designate a single official representative for communication with the organising committee, who will be the only person authorised to approach the race secretariat or Head Judge in urgent cases. Anti-doping rules apply in line with WADA standards, as accepted through F.I.P.S.A.S. membership. Official club kit is compulsory during all ceremonies.
