The premier event on the Italian finswimming calendar is officially underway. From May 29 to May 31, 2026, the Campionati Italiani Estivi Assoluti di Nuoto Pinnato (Italian Summer Absolute Finswimming Championships) takes center stage at the “Bella Italia” Sports Village in Lignano Sabbiadoro (Udine).
As one of the fastest and most visually spectacular disciplines in the aquatic sporting world, this year’s summer championships bring together the nation’s elite athletes. Competing in a standard 50-meter, 8-lane Olympic pool, swimmers are battling not just for national titles, but also for crucial times ahead of upcoming international fixtures, such as the CMAS European and World Championships.
A Jam-Packed Competitive Program
The event regulation framework outlines an intensive, fast-paced schedule divided into morning and afternoon sessions across the weekend. The program encompasses a wide range of distances and styles, testing both explosive speed and strategic endurance.
Key events featured in the 2026 program include:
Monofin (Monopinna) and Bifins (Pinne): Ranging from the lightning-fast 50m and 100m sprints to the grueling 400m and 800m tests of endurance.
Surface Velosub (VS): Specialized events showcasing underwater and surface speed mastery using CMAS-approved gear.
Mixed and Age-Group Relays: High-octane team events, including the Under 18 and Absolute categories in the 4x100m mixed (2 Male + 2 Female) and the demanding 4x200m Monofin relays.
The tournament structure utilizes a heat-and-final format for major sprint events, where athletes must successfully navigate morning qualifiers to earn a spot in the coveted afternoon finals.
Heavy Club Turnout and Intense Competition
According to the official start lists published ahead of the tournament, the event boasts a massive turnout from Italy’s top-tier clubs. Dozens of sports associations have traveled to the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, bringing robust rosters to vie for team points.
Among the clubs with the largest contingents are ASD NP Varedo (boasting 17 athletes and 70 individual entries) and C.U.S. Bologna (with 19 athletes and 75 individual entries). Other major powerhouses, such as A.S.D. Calypso Piacenza, ASD Polydra Carignano, ASD CS Guardia di Finanza E.R. Modena, and Rome’s Centro Nuoto Appio Latino, have also fielded formidable squads. Notably, elite military sports groups, including the Centro Nazionale Fiamme Oro Roma, are present, ensuring the competitive standard remains at an absolute premium.
