A sensational performance lit up the pool at the 2025 Russian Finswimming Championships, as Maria Patlasova from Novosibirsk Oblast swam the 800 meters surface (SF) in an astonishing 6:44.26, surpassing the current official world record of 6:46.79 set by China’s Liu Jiao back on August 1st, 2011, in Hódmezővásárhely (Hungary).
Alteady 2 days ago she swam the race of 400 sf with the unbelievable time of 3.07.10.
Patlasova’s time marks a new milestone in women’s finswimming, showcasing not only her incredible endurance and technique but also the growing strength of Russian athletes in long-distance events. Although her performance is not yet officially recognized by CMAS as a world record, it stands as the fastest known time ever in the women’s 800 SF.
The previous record by Liu Jiao had stood unchallenged for nearly 14 years, underlining the magnitude of Patlasova’s achievement.
Could this be the rise of a new era in women’s distance finswimming?
