FINSWIMMER MAGAZINE
Start Date: Oct 25th, 2024 | End Date: Oct 26th, 2024

From October 25 to 26, 2024, the city of Novosibirsk in Russia’s Novosibirsk region hosted an exciting event at the “Neptun” swimming pool: the Regional Finswimming Competition for Prizes of the Novosibirsk Regional Federation of Underwater Sports. Held in the 50-meter pool, this competition gathered young finswimming talent from across the region, featuring athletes in two main age categories: juniors (ages 14-17) and the younger cohort of boys and girls (ages 12-13). This annual event not only provided a competitive platform but also encouraged youth involvement in finswimming, highlighting the growth of the sport within Russia.

Finswimming, a discipline of underwater sports, has seen an increasing number of young enthusiasts in Russia. Known for its unique blend of speed and technical skill, finswimming requires swimmers to use either monofins or bifins while employing special breathing techniques, often with snorkels or oxygen tanks for different race categories. This year’s competition was no exception, with athletes demonstrating impressive speed, endurance, and agility.

The 2024 competition aimed to nurture emerging talent in finswimming by offering a well-structured program for young participants. Over two days, athletes competed across a range of distances, including short sprints and longer, more challenging races. The events were designed to test the athletes’ skills in both speed and stamina, making for a thrilling spectator experience.

Among the juniors, the competition was particularly intense as athletes vied for top positions. Many of the young swimmers had undergone rigorous training leading up to the event, reflecting the dedication and hard work characteristic of finswimmers in this age group. As they moved through the water with powerful strokes, spectators could see the skill that comes with years of training and passion for the sport. Several promising juniors made a mark by setting new personal bests and even breaking regional records, showcasing the high level of finswimming talent emerging from Novosibirsk.

In the 12-13 age group, boys and girls competed with enthusiasm and determination. For many of these young athletes, this event was a stepping stone, marking one of their earliest experiences in a formal competitive environment. Their performances illustrated both the potential and the spirit of sportsmanship that the Novosibirsk Regional Federation of Underwater Sports aims to cultivate. The federation’s commitment to developing finswimming at the grassroots level was evident, as the competition provided an inclusive and supportive atmosphere for all participants.

The “Neptun” swimming pool, renowned for its 50-meter lanes and modern facilities, provided the ideal setting for the competition. Spectators and families of the participants filled the stands, creating a lively and supportive environment. The federation’s efforts to promote finswimming and engage the community were reflected in the enthusiastic turnout and the encouraging cheers that echoed throughout the venue.

In summary, the Regional Finswimming Competition in Novosibirsk was a remarkable event that underscored the city’s commitment to developing youth talent in underwater sports. With the continued support of the Novosibirsk Regional Federation of Underwater Sports, finswimming is poised to grow even further, inspiring young athletes to pursue excellence in this unique and dynamic sport. The competition highlighted not only the athletic skills of the participants but also their dedication and sportsmanship, paving the way for a bright future in Russian finswimming.
