The CSU Natatorium in Chengdu, China, was the stage for pure speed and history on August 11, 2025, as Hungary’s Szebasztian Szabo delivered a sensational swim to win gold in the Men’s 50m Bi-Fins.
Clocking 17.96 seconds, Szabo not only claimed the title but also smashed the Senior Men’s World Record, erasing the long-standing mark of 18.41 seconds set by Russia’s Andrey Arbuzov in Volos, Greece, on June 26, 2016.
After nine years, the record finally fell — and it did so on one of the biggest stages in the sport, The World Games, with the world watching. Szabo’s start, underwater phase, and flawless stroke rate combined for a performance that left spectators and fellow athletes in awe.
“This is a dream come true. To break a world record at The World Games is something I will never forget,” Szabo said after his race, still catching his breath but smiling broadly.
The win not only secures Szabo’s place in finswimming history but also showcases the ever-evolving speed and competitiveness in the bi-fins sprint discipline.
