New Finswimming World Record: Myeungjun Shin’s Remarkable Achievement at the 105th National Sports Festival

On October 11th, 2024, the world of finswimming witnessed a historic moment as South Korean athlete Myeungjun Shin set a new world record in the men’s 100 meters immersion event. The event took place in Daegu, South Korea, during the prestigious 105th National Sports Festival. Shin’s phenomenal performance clocked in at an astonishing 00:30.97, a time that has now etched his name in the record books, surpassing previous world records and raising the bar for future finswimmers.

He already has set the World Record in Belgrade (SERBIA) on July 13th 2024 during the CMAS Finswimming World Championships 2024 withe the time of 31.01.

Myeungjun Shin, born in 2001, is no stranger to competitive finswimming. Over the years, he has made a name for himself as one of South Korea’s leading finswimmers, consistently showing impressive performances in national and international competitions. However, his latest achievement at the National Sports Festival has firmly placed him on the global stage. The festival, renowned for gathering top athletes from across South Korea, became the backdrop for one of the most significant moments in finswimming history.

The 100 Meters Immersion Event

The 100 meters immersion event is one of the most exhilarating races in finswimming. It combines the athlete’s speed, breath-hold capacity, and technical finesse in maneuvering underwater. Competitors use a monofin and must rely solely on their ability to breath from a bottle during the dive until they reach the finish line. It is a race of pure endurance and speed, where every second counts.

Shin’s new record time of 00:30.97 is a monumental achievement in a race that demands not only incredible athleticism but also mental toughness. Finswimmers train for years to perfect their technique and develop the strength needed to propel themselves at such high speeds underwater. Shin’s victory demonstrated his exceptional skill set and relentless commitment to his craft.

A Historic Win for South Korea

South Korea has seen significant growth in the sport of finswimming over the last decade, with athletes like Myeungjun Shin leading the charge. Shin’s world record has undoubtedly inspired a new generation of finswimmers in his country. South Korea has now become a key player in the international finswimming community, and Shin’s success will further contribute to the sport’s popularity and growth in the nation.

His achievement at the 105th National Sports Festival is not only a personal triumph but also a major milestone for South Korean finswimming. The National Sports Festival, a highly regarded annual event, serves as a platform for the country’s most talented athletes across various disciplines. By setting a new world record in such a prominent competition, Shin has showcased the depth of talent within South Korea’s finswimming community.

Looking Ahead

As Myeungjun Shin celebrates his world record, the international finswimming community eagerly anticipates what lies ahead for this young athlete. Born in 2001, Shin is just entering his prime, and this latest achievement suggests that his career is on an upward trajectory. With the 2025 CMAS Finswimming World Championships just around the corner, many are wondering whether he will continue to break barriers and set new records on the world stage.

For now, his 100 meters immersion world record in Daegu stands as a testament to his hard work, dedication, and talent. South Korea has a new finswimming hero, and the world has a new benchmark to strive for.

As the dust settles on the 105th National Sports Festival, Myeungjun Shin’s incredible performance will be remembered as a defining moment in finswimming history—one that will inspire athletes for years to come.
