FINSWIMMER MAGAZINE

Hello Olga, you are a very very good Finswimmer, at the top of the World…speak about your long career, since the beginning until today.
Thanks a lot Davide. Yes, time is going very fast. I’ve spent 16 years in finswiming and still training. During this years I participated to many European and World Championships, twice in World Games. I started my career at 9 years and in 1997 I was in my first Long Distance World Championship in Poland. I didn’t win a medal but I was given a prize as the youngest partecipant because I was only 12 years old.

You won medals in the last World Games…speak a little about it.
In the last World Games I won 2 bronze medals on 200 m and 400 m surface. I think it’s a big success for me because in the previous Games in Germany I didn’t win any…

Saint Petersburg World Championships 2009, how did it was?
What can I say about World Championship… it was 3 weeks after World Games and unfortunately I couldn’t maintain that physical condition that I had during the World Games…When I was preparing for the World Games my coach and I considered a possibility that it might have happened…It was always difficult for me to show my highest results in competitions with such a small time difference between.

What are your targets for your Future, in and out of the water?
I’m planning to swim for 2 more years and maybe even more if I have enough strength to continue…and in 4 years term I hope I successfully will graduate from University and leave to study abroad to Norway or Swiss for my postgraduate diploma.

What do you do now in your life?
I’m studying in the Kiev National University of Internal Affairs at present. It’s my 2nd education. And of course I keep training.

Who is your preferred Sportman (Finswimming or Not / past or present)? And why?
Oh…It’s a difficult question…There are a lot finswimmers in present that I respect like Andrea Nava, Pavel Kabanov, Vasilisa Kravchuk, Stefano Figini, Sven Luzkendorf, Margo Artiushenko, Evgeny Skorzhenko and in the past who I look up to…like Julia Semenchenko, Sergey Akhapov.

If you could, what would you do to let Finswimming be more famous in the World?
We do need more promotion. And people like you Davide, Cyril Kergadallan, Nicola Negrello, Andrey Burakov are doing a right thing. I think we should get involved our top finswimmers. It’s the same thing that Michael Phelps is doing to help swimming become as popular in USA as it is in Australia.

World Games and World Championships…What do you prefere? Tell us the differences…
Personally I prefer World Games…The atmosphere of the competition is unforgettable! It’s like an Olympic Games for me. The main difference between World Games and World Championships is that to compete in Games you should get a licence. That’s mean that you should be in the World Top 8 finswimmers on the distance. As for Championships any 2 finswimmers can participate on the distance from their country. In Ukraine Games are more prestigious then Championships.

Finswimming & Youngs! What would you tell to a young boy/girl that is starting Finswimming? Which suggestions would you give to him?
For young boys and girls that are starting finswimming I can say that it’s a beautiful and dynamic sport, so to become a great finswimmer you should love this sport, work hard and you definitely achieve a success.

Tell us whatever you want (free topic)
I would like to say thank you Davide and Finswimmer Magazine for this interview and for all your work to promote our amazing sport. Good luck!

Chi è il tuo atleta preferivo (Nuoto Pinnato o no / passato o presente)?

E gente come te Davide, Cyril Kergadallan, Nicola Negrello, Andrey Burakov state facendo la cosa giusta.

World Games e Campionati Mondiali…Quali preferisci? Quali sono le differenze?
Personalmente preferisco i World Games…L’atmosfera delle gare è indimenticabile!
