Interview with Elisa Mammi, a Ligurian Champion

Countries Europe Italy
FINSWIMMER MAGAZINE

Hello Elisa, now you are one of the best Finswimmers in the World…speak about your career.
Well…it all begun as a game, and I’m happy that it started in this way, because the Sport should be first of all Fun…lmy first Finswimming competition was during a Classical Swimming one, in the same day, in the same Swimming Pool, then I tried…I liked it so I went on!!! I got my results soon, enjoying my Swimming Trainings, I onlty had to perfect my technics…but I think I have a lot to learn and to improve!!! Next Summer I will try to use the Snorkel in the competitions!!!

Your main Sport is Classical Swimming…which do you prefere? And why?
Yes I’m a Classical Swimmer, and I like it, it’s difficult to choose…I will compete in both of them, because of the Training is almost the same…but I prefere the Finswimming environment!! Without doubts, there is less competition, no stress at races, and it is like a big family, when you get a big results your team mate, and the other teams, come to you to congratulate, and this is the bigger joy, thing that doesn’t use to be in Classical Swimming or in other morwe known sports…

Saint Petersburg Championships, what do you say about?
Well what can I say…this Worlds have been for me beyond all expectations! I was very satisfied! I closed with a flourish year of great sacrifices but I would say that with a silver medal and a bronze one, my efforts were more than satisfied!

Targets for the future…
Targets for the future…well, Europeans…at last Euro I was Second on 50 mt bifins…I have just to swim better!!!

What do you do in yuor life?
In my life…over the sport, and stay always in the water…I study Marine Environmental Science at the Genova University!! I’m attending the 3rd year!! In my free time I go out with friends!!

Who is/was your favourite athlete? And why?
My favorite athlete even though she abandoned the sport this year, is and always will be Paola Cavallino! (Athlete’s National Swimming 200 butterfly) was my team mate in Classical Swimming and especially my teacher of life! If I’m here to tell you about my results I must thank her! Last year I wanted to stop swimming and she gave me the strength to go beyond a few small disappointments that are part of everyday life, and find the motivation to move forward! And even better! And so it was! Thanks Paola!

If you could, what would you do to help our sport?
Well I think I would find the way to make it more visible for all to see … trying to find sponsors advertise … … and that’s what in my little I’m trying to do in Genoa! Then the greatest dream would be … that Finswimming would take part at the Olympic Games … but unfortunately this does not depend on me!

Have you ever tried the Monofin? If yes tell us how did you feel…if not, why?
Yes I tried once in 50 apnea…and it was soo good!!! But I always prefere Bifins!!!

Sport & youngs, what would you say to a little boy/girl that is starting Finswimming?
I would tell him to follow his dreams…and never give up…with commitment and determination nothing is impossible!!

Tell us something (free topic)
I would like to thank all my team-mates (including technicians) that made me enjoy both at Eger and in St. Petersburg that the days beautiful and fun! Experiences that I really hope to repeat!

E come mai?
