The World Underwater Federation (CMAS) has officially entrusted the Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities (FEDAS), through the Catalan Federation of Underwater Activities (FECDAS), with organizing the 21st World Championship of Underwater Photography and the 7th World Championship of Underwater Video. These prestigious events will take place from October 6 to 12, 2025, in L’Estartit, a picturesque coastal town located in the Medes Islands, within the province of Girona, in Catalonia, Spain.
The Medes Islands, known for their rich biodiversity and stunning underwater landscapes, provide an ideal setting for such a high-caliber competition. The marine reserve is celebrated for its clear waters and vibrant ecosystems, offering the perfect backdrop for both photographers and videographers to capture the beauty of underwater life. Competitors from around the globe are expected to participate, showcasing their talents in capturing the essence of marine environments through striking images and dynamic videos.
The World Championships of Underwater Photography and Video are among the most important events on the CMAS calendar. These competitions not only highlight the technical skills and creativity of the participants but also raise awareness of the importance of marine conservation. The images and videos produced during these championships often serve as powerful tools to promote the preservation of underwater ecosystems and inspire action against the degradation of marine habitats.
The event will gather the world’s best underwater photographers and videographers, who will compete in various categories, aiming to impress international judges with their ability to depict the underwater world’s beauty, complexity, and fragility. Each category is designed to challenge the participants’ expertise, whether capturing macro details of small marine life or portraying the vastness of underwater seascapes.
With the collaboration of FEDAS, FECDAS, and CMAS, the 2025 championships in L’Estartit promise to be a celebration of underwater visual arts and marine conservation, contributing to Spain’s growing reputation as a prime destination for underwater activities.
More information about the event will be available soon through the official websites of FECDAS, FEDAS, and CMAS.
These championships will surely be an exciting event for underwater enthusiasts and conservation advocates worldwide.
