A Comprehensive Look at the Italian Finswimming Calendar for 2025

The 2025 provisional and under construction Italian finswimming calendar is packed with an exciting lineup of events, from local trophies and national championships to world-class international competitions. Italian finswimmers, both young and seasoned, will have ample opportunities to showcase their talents in events that span the disciplines of pool-based finswimming (NP) and long-distance open-water challenges. Here’s an overview of the notable events scheduled throughout the year.

November-December 2024: Building Momentum for 2025

The finswimming season begins in late 2024, setting the stage for the following year with several competitions:

  • 10 November – Trofeo Titano: Hosted in San Marino, this event allows athletes to prepare for the intense competitive season ahead.
  • 24 November – Trofeo Gala della Velocità in Torino focuses on high-speed races, bringing out the best of Italy’s sprinters.
  • 23-24 November – 4th Sardinia Finswimming in Cagliari attracts finswimmers from across Italy and beyond, offering an engaging prelude to winter competitions.
  • 1 December – Trofeo Salvemini in Bologna provides another chance for finswimmers to compete in a high-energy event.
  • 14-15 December – 17th Christmas Cup in Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD), a holiday-season favorite, brings together top talents for a celebratory yet competitive close to the year.

January-February 2025: National and International Competitions Begin

  • 7-9 February – The World Cup Round Swimming Pool – 1st Round takes place in Aix En Provence, France. This is an important early international event for Italian athletes aiming to secure their place on the world stage.
  • 15-16 February – Italian Spring Championships by Category in Lignano Sabbiadoro is a key event for athletes across various age groups.
  • 22 February – The Italian Spring Championships for Beginners in Agropoli (SA) introduces young athletes to the competitive scene.
  • 23 February – Italian Spring Championships for Masters also in Agropoli provides an opportunity for seasoned athletes to showcase their skills.

March-April 2025: Italian Championships and World Cup Events

  • 7-9 March – Italian Spring Championships for Absolute Category in Lignano Sabbiadoro features top finswimmers in Italy, competing for the national title.
  • 21-23 March – World Cup Round Swimming Pool – 2nd Round returns to Lignano Sabbiadoro, giving Italian athletes a rare chance to compete internationally at home.
  • 11-13 April – The World Cup Round Swimming Pool – 3rd Round in Barcelona presents Italian athletes with another chance to prove themselves on an international level.

May: Italian Championships Continue, World Cup Rounds, and Open Water Events

  • 4 May – 1st Round of the Italian Cup in Open Water in Camaiore (LU) opens the season for open water finswimming, testing athletes’ endurance and skill in natural water settings.
  • 10-11 May – The 5th National Criterium in Lignano Sabbiadoro is another major event on the Italian circuit, drawing athletes from around the country.
  • 23-25 May – Italian athletes head to Coral Springs, USA, for the World Cup Swimming Pool – 4th Round, adding an extra layer of competition for those aiming for international rankings.
  • 30 May – 1 June – Italian Summer Championships for Absolute Category in Lignano Sabbiadoro serves as a key national championship for elite athletes.

June-July: National and International Highlights

  • 15 June – The 2nd Round of the Italian Cup in Open Water in Ravenna is the second of Italy’s major open-water competitions.
  • 17-23 June – Italian athletes travel to Chios, Greece, for the Junior World Championships Indoor, a pivotal event for young Italian finswimmers.
  • 28-29 June – Italian Summer Championships by Category takes place in Livorno, allowing athletes to demonstrate their prowess and aim for national titles within their specific age categories.
  • 13 July – The 3rd Round of the Italian Cup in Open Water in Suviana (BO) is another critical event in the open-water series.
  • 15-20 July – Italian competitors participate in the European Championships Indoor Absolute in Olsztyn, Poland, aiming for continental titles in a highly competitive arena.
  • 25-26 July – The Italian Open Water Championships in Viverone (BI) showcases long-distance endurance and skill, drawing the season’s open-water competitions to a close.

August: World Games and International Events

  • 7-12 August – Italian finswimmers compete at the World Games in Chengdu, China, one of the largest multi-sport events, with finswimming featuring prominently. This event provides a global platform for Italian athletes to gain recognition and compete with the best.

October: World Open Water Championships

  • 7-12 October – The World Championships in Open Water for junior and senior categories take place in Marina El Alamein, Egypt. This competition tests Italian athletes’ endurance and skill against top international competitors in open water.
  • 10-13 October – The World Championships in Open Water for Masters also held in Marina El Alamein, gives Italian master athletes the chance to compete on a global scale in the demanding open-water environment.
